The ferry reached the Stena Tyskland Quay yesterday morning in good time and pouring rain. Prior to disembarking I inquired for the directions towards the Central Station. The lady at the information desk gave me a map and indicated how to get to a small ferry, Älvsnobben, which I guess means river ferry.
That sounded nicer than walking or taking the trolley car.
Self assured I walked off the Stena ferry in the indicated direction. Meanwhile two Nigerians, a PhD student from Kiel and a nurse from Freiburg trusting my local knowledge joined me.
It kind of didn’t look right, but we kept walking. At a taxi stand we asked a driver, and he said that it was on the other side of the bay and he would take us there. Clearly a detour. Lesson: never ask a taxi driver for directions.
So we kept walking. In the rain. We agreed that rains in Lagos are warmer.
Saturday morning, nobody on the road. Out of an alley comes a Volvo station wagon. Already somewhat desperate I wave him down, asking again for directions. After studying the map his diagnosis is clear: “You’re walking into the wrong direction. Hop in, I’ll take you there.” Most grateful we hop into his leather seats. Getting to the supposed ferry quay – no ferry. But the friendly Samaritan says he has lots of time and offers to take us down town to a tram station at Vasa Platsen. From there only a couple stops to Central Station.
We have a nice chat and turns out, the driver and the Nigerian both work in the same field, cleaning up the oceans from micro plastic.
As we reach Vasa Platsen, we drop off and say thanks and good bye.
The Samaritan’s name: Christoffer.
Thank you, Christoffer!!!
